Gal Gadot Reveals She and Tom Hiddleston Had a Four-Hour Audition for Mad Max: Fury Road

The Wonder Woman star says she and the Marvel actor went through an intense screen test for George Miller’s Oscar-winning blockbuster—but neither landed a role.

Gal Gadot has revealed that she and Tom Hiddleston once spent four hours auditioning together for one of Hollywood’s biggest action movies.

The Wonder Woman actress discussed the intense audition process during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, recalling how she and Hiddleston participated in a screen test for George Miller’s 2015 blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road.

According to Gadot, the audition took place in London and was far more demanding than a typical casting session.

A Four-Hour Audition in London

Gadot said she traveled to a beautiful London home for what turned into an extended audition with Hiddleston.

“I did my match test with Tom Hiddleston. We were in London,” she recalled.

The actress said the process lasted around four hours and involved extensive filming and preparation.

She remembered arriving during a cold London winter wearing several layers of clothing, only to leave the audition wearing a tank top because of how physically intense the session had become.

“It was so intense, the work that we’d done and how much we filmed. It was amazing,” Gadot said.

Gadot Was Auditioning for Furiosa

Gadot was testing for the role of Imperator Furiosa, the fierce warrior who became one of the film’s most memorable characters.

The role ultimately went to Charlize Theron, who starred opposite Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky.

Mad Max: Fury Road became a major critical and commercial success and went on to win six Academy Awards at the 2016 Oscars.

Gadot admitted she was somewhat surprised when she did not get the part because she felt confident about the work she and Hiddleston had done during the audition.

‘Tom Hiddleston Is Such an Incredible Actor’

Gadot also praised Hiddleston, saying she was impressed by his performance during their screen test.

She recalled that she did not know him personally at the time and was aware of his reputation as a major theater actor in England.

Hiddleston ultimately did not appear in Fury Road either.

Gadot said director George Miller simply had a specific vision for the movie and that neither she nor Hiddleston ultimately fit what he wanted.

A Different Blockbuster Came Gadot’s Way

Although Gadot lost out on Mad Max: Fury Road, the setback did not stop her Hollywood rise.

Just a few years later, she landed the title role in DC’s Wonder Woman, which was released in 2017 and transformed her into one of the most recognizable superhero stars in the world.

Her career later included major roles in films such as Justice League, Red Notice and Disney’s live-action Snow White.

Meanwhile, Hiddleston became one of Marvel’s most recognizable stars through his role as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Role That Got Away

Looking back, Gadot’s story offers a glimpse into how unpredictable Hollywood casting can be.

A four-hour audition involving two future blockbuster stars ultimately produced neither of the actors who participated in it. Instead, Miller’s vision led to Theron and Hardy taking the central roles—and Mad Max: Fury Road went on to become one of the most acclaimed action films of its generation.
