Katy Perry Calls Justin Trudeau the ‘Love of My Life’ as She Opens Up About Orlando Bloom Split

The pop superstar reflects on heartbreak, resilience, motherhood, criticism and finding love again with Justin Trudeau.

Katy Perry is opening up about one of the most difficult periods of her life — and the new chapter that followed.

The 41-year-old “Firework” singer recently reflected on her global tour, her split from Orlando Bloom, motherhood and her relationship with Justin Trudeau in a new interview.

Perry said the past year was particularly challenging, but touring helped her reconnect with her fans, rediscover her purpose and find a renewed sense of happiness.

Katy Perry Responds to ‘Cringe’ Backlash

Perry acknowledged that her return to the spotlight has attracted criticism, including people who have described some of her recent efforts as “cringe.”

“A lot of people said I couldn’t do it and gave me a lot of flak – and I did it,” Perry said. “Some people are like, ‘Cringe, cringe, cringe.’ But I’m living my f—ing life to the fullest!”

She said learning resilience has been an important part of her journey and that it took several years to reconnect with her sense of purpose.

Perry also pointed to motherhood as one reason she had previously stepped back from touring. She said raising her six-year-old daughter, Daisy, while navigating the pandemic made returning to a full world tour particularly difficult.

“She’s seeing her mother in her purpose, and that’s good for her; she sees her mom being strong,” Perry said of Daisy. “But also, not every day was easy. Look, last year was really hard.”

Perry Opens Up About Her Orlando Bloom Split

Perry described her separation from Orlando Bloom as one of the hardest experiences she has faced.

“It was probably the hardest time,” she said, recalling moments when she felt isolated while her friends were back home. “I was crying and just feeling far away. But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”

Looking back at their nine-year relationship, Perry said she believes every relationship carries lessons.

“I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn,” she said. “Each relationship is a teacher, right?”

Perry added that she ultimately had to let the relationship go in order to move forward.

She also revealed that she had long wanted an “epic legendary love” and had discussed that desire with her therapist. According to Perry, the missing piece eventually appeared in her life.

Perry credited her tour with giving her what she described as the greatest gift of all: meeting Justin Trudeau.

“I got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life,” she said.

Perry explained that she met Trudeau while on tour and that their relationship developed from there.

“He knows the words, he’s supportive, and he’s in awe; it’s super healing,” she said. “He is really heart-centered, and I think that we align in that way. I’m so grateful.”

The singer also pointed to her personal manifestation list, revealing that one of its entries simply reads, “True Love.”

“No. 10 just says, ‘True Love.’ And I think that’s where we’re at,” Perry said.

A New Chapter for Perry

After a difficult period marked by personal change and professional challenges, Perry said she is now focused on living her life and using those experiences as inspiration.

“[I’m] living my life, so I can write about my life,” she said.

For Perry, the new chapter appears to be about more than returning to the stage. It is also about resilience, motherhood, healing and embracing a relationship she describes as deeply meaningful.
