Zach Bryan Wears ‘Free Palestine’ Shirt at Gillette Stadium Amid Macklemore Controversy

Country music star Zach Bryan attracted attention on Friday, October 2, after wearing a “Free Palestine” T-shirt during his performance at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

According to photos obtained by TMZ, Bryan took the stage wearing a black shirt bearing the pro-Palestinian message. His wardrobe choice drew added attention because of the recent controversy surrounding rapper Macklemore’s removal from the remaining US dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour.

Bryan is scheduled to perform two shows at Gillette Stadium on October 2 and 3 as part of his With Heaven On Tour. Gregory Alan Isakov and Gabriella Rose are joining him as special guests.

Why Is Zach Bryan’s T-Shirt Making Headlines?

The shirt has attracted attention because it comes shortly after a public dispute over Macklemore’s participation in Sheeran’s tour.

Macklemore was removed from the remaining US dates of the Loop Tour after making pro-Palestinian comments during a performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Macklemore subsequently claimed that several venues had objected to his continued involvement in the tour. He specifically alleged that Robert Kraft, whose Kraft Group owns Gillette Stadium, opposed his appearance at the venue.

Sheeran later addressed the controversy, saying venues had indicated they would withdraw upcoming shows if Macklemore remained on the bill. Sheeran also confirmed that he had spoken directly with Kraft while attempting to find a resolution. However, he maintained that the final decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour promoter rather than by him.

Kraft has separately confirmed that he opposed Macklemore performing at Gillette Stadium and explained his reasoning.

Ed Sheeran’s Gillette Stadium Shows Were Canceled

The controversy also attracted attention because Sheeran had been scheduled to perform two concerts at Gillette Stadium on September 25 and 26.

Both shows were ultimately canceled because of severe weather warnings associated with a powerful nor’easter. The cancellations meant Sheeran did not perform at the venue on those dates.

Bryan’s appearance on October 2, just over a week after Sheeran’s scheduled concerts, has therefore drawn additional attention to the stadium and the earlier dispute.

However, Bryan’s decision to wear the shirt does not, by itself, establish that he intended to comment on the controversy involving Macklemore, Sheeran and Kraft.

Macklemore Announces ‘Free Palestine Tour’

Following his removal from Sheeran’s tour, Macklemore announced his own Free Palestine Tour, with proceeds intended to support organizations assisting Palestinians.

The rapper also revealed that the tour’s first three scheduled shows in Dublin, Paris and London had sold out, according to a report published by People.

The tour announcement has kept Macklemore’s advocacy and the circumstances surrounding his removal from Sheeran’s concerts in the public conversation.

Zach Bryan’s Two-Night Performance

Bryan’s October 2 and 3 appearances at Gillette Stadium are part of his With Heaven On Tour, with Isakov and Rose joining him as special guests.

His choice to wear a “Free Palestine” shirt at the venue has attracted attention because of the recent debate over political expression at concerts and the decisions made by artists, promoters and venue owners.

While the circumstances surrounding Macklemore’s removal remain a separate issue, Bryan’s appearance has brought renewed attention to the intersection of music, public expression and the ongoing discussion surrounding Palestine.
